Coaching is a collaboration in
helping you flourish.
what is coaching
Through conversation and a commitment to curiosity, coaching works to discover the knowledge, attitudes or skills that may no longer be in your best interest or may even be undermining your ability to thrive. Coaching concentrates on the present and future. This lens allows us to focus only on what is true now and the actions we can take in the near term. With this approach, goal clarity is an important component of any coaching engagement. Through a coaching relationship, we will work to build confidence, support skill development, and help you achieve whatever your definition of potential includes.
why coaching works
No two coaching sessions will ever look the same and there is no magic equation; yet, coaching works. Built around you, coaching holds a firm belief that each individual is already equipped to achieve their potential. The journey is to be curious in how your goals align with your values. This understanding, as well as your personal experiences will help craft your journey to success.
While advice giving and mentoring can be helpful in some situations, coaching strives for you to create the path you take.
my coaching approach
As your coach, I will never “tell you the answer”, “give you a shortcut” or “guide you down any particular path.” Instead, I will create a supportive space to explore and collaborate. Each session is tailored to your specific concerns, at that specific point in time. Due to natural fluctuations in your needs, coaching sessions may include some of the following tools; active listening, questioning and inquiry, goal clarifying, or feedback.
I will also support you in the form of an accountability partner, motivator, resource provider, and reflective partner.
My practice is rooted in several coaching philosophies, including:
Narrative coaching: Examines and reframes the stories we tell about ourselves to unlock new pathways for growth
Positive psychology: Draws on a person’s strengths to improve well-being and performance
Cognitive behavioral coaching: Identifies links between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to break down barriers
Mindfulness: Build an increased awareness and focused attention on the present moment, without judgment

What is the format of a coaching engagement?
All coaching engagements are founded on three different meeting types;
Exploration Session: This 30 minute introduction allows us to discuss what you are looking to gain from a coaching engagement and if we would be a match moving forward.
Mapping Session: This 45 minute session focuses on developing goal clarity, reviewing any personal development resources, and mapping the path of our engagement.
Coaching Session: All sessions beyond the Mapping session will be 60 minute coaching sessions. Traditionally an engagement extends 3 to 6 months with meetings occurring weekly or bi-weekly. However, this duration and frequency will be discussed based on your goals.
At the beginning of each session, I’ll ask what you’d like to focus on, so we can address what is most valuable to you. From there, we’ll dive into what’s on your mind. I’ll ask questions or introduce coaching tools to encourage you to play with your thinking to see things in a new light. To wrap up the session, we’ll talk about your main takeaways and what you’ll be carrying into the week(s) ahead.
How much does it cost?
Traditionally, I have found that coaching can be unjustly expensive for those who would benefit from it the most. Therefore, my objective is simple: to make an intentional effort to distribute resources equitably by offering my coaching on a sliding scale. For those able to, paying at the higher end of the scale will allow me to work with individuals who may not have the means due to marginalized injustices.
My pricing structure is between $20 - $60 per session.
In contrast to other coaches, I am strongly against upfront costs and “coaching packages”. It is crucial to the process for you to feel value in our engagement. I only charge for the sessions we complete. Also, you will never be upsold on products such as skills inventories, webinars, or courses.
Where are coaching sessions held?
Human. Heart. Work. is based on the northside of Chicago IL. When possible, in-person sessions are preferred to assist in building our rapport. Locations for in-person meetings could include, but are not limited to, local coffee shops or libraries. If you are not local or prefer to engage in a virtual coaching relationship, sessions will be offered via Google Meet. Regardless of the format, the coaching process remains the same.
What if my life priorities shift and I can no longer commit?
This may happen over the course of our engagement and it is totally okay! Coaching is most effective when you can commit to the actions and work of meeting goals. but in reality, life happens and things can change. Should we need to pause or end an engagement, there is no commitment to continue if circumstances are not favorable for your success.
How is coaching different from therapy or mentoring?
Coaching, therapy, and mentoring are all forms of guidance and support provided to individuals or groups seeking to improve their performance, achieve their goals, or overcome challenges. However, they differ in their goals, approaches, and roles of the person providing the service.
Coaching is a process that focuses on developing your skills, knowledge, and abilities to help you achieve specific goals. As your coach, I help you to identify your strengths, set goals, and create momentum to help you achieve them. In our engagement, I will primarily use open-ended questions to stimulate thinking and encourage self-discovery. In our sessions, I don't provide solutions or advice but help you to find your own sustainable solutions.
Therapy is offered by a licensed clinical professional who is trained to assess and treat mental health diagnoses. This means that it most often focuses on an individual’s past and present. On the other hand, coaching is primarily centered on the present and future, as it focuses on defining and working toward an individual’s goals for themselves.
Mentoring is a relationship in which a more experienced person (mentor) provides guidance, support, and advice to a less experienced person (mentee) in a particular field or area.
